Your tasks and responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of this role, Head of Due Diligence & Evaluation, are to:

The Head of DDE defines the strategic direction of the group and aligns goals and objectives accordingly ensuring alignment with R&D management and business development functions. Provide supportive leadership to all three groups providing a holistic approach. Promote and encourage cross fertilization of ideas and encourage talent progression

Both personally lead Due Diligence teams and manage the Due Diligence Team Leaders ensuring the highest quality of review, timely submissions and recommendations, ensuring alignment with senior R&D management;
Review all documents and contracts using a strong critical and objective interpretation of scientific information;
Provide training and information to potential DD team members for process and quality in deal evaluations;
Implement and review all BD&L processes for managing deal evaluation in R&D;
Be an active member of the BD&L strategy team in determining targets for evaluation and help and advice in the filtering on opportunities;
Act as the liaison between R&D and BD&L worldwide ensuring optimum performance;
External face of Leading Pharmaceutical Company for R&D BD&L interactions;
Develop development risk management process and apply these across projects both internal / external. Provide metrics to senior management and the teams to assess and compare the opportunities;
Support teams in identifying risks. Develop consistent approach to the identification and quantification of risks associated with internal development projects and in-licensing opportunities. Ensure that these risks are appropriated factored into the decision and valuation process;
Regularly benchmark internal risks with external data sources;
Provide an effective and efficient competitive intelligence in collaboration with SCI that focusses on providing in depth knowledge of competitive R&D activities;
Develop and implement a process for utilizing this informationfor internal decision making and external licensing/acquisition decisions;
Continually benchmark the process other companies employ to maintain effective and efficient R&D organizations and make recommendation to development management;
Maintain an updated database of competitive research activities in therapeutic areas of high interest to Leading Pharmaceutical Company. Perform and analyze regular external scans, to provide R&D focused competitive insights on those competitive companies;
Evaluate portfolio for weaknesses and recommend possible opportunities based on competitive intelligence information;
Ensure that all deal evaluations consider competitor portfolios as well as internal pipeline requirements;
Create an integrated, efficient and objective environment for the assessment of internal project and external licensing opportunities;
Provide technical expertise and knowledge to assess the internal assets and BD&L opportunities in a consistent approach across development while keeping in mind customer needs and commercial considerations;
Spearhead the evaluation process in a matrix environment; presenting customized scenarios to optimize the value of internal and external opportunities valuing each on a comparative measure;
Work with the R&D organization to foster critical analysis and insights of risks. Ensure full transparency of all issues and risks are appropriately signaling these to development senior management;
Promote a culture which will make recommendations to mitigation and resolve risk;
Provide strategic guidance into deals based on insight and intelligence of competitive R&D activities. Use R&D competitive intelligence to help set strategy in prioritizing internal / external evaluations. Provide R&D insights early in the evaluation process to guide BD&L to the assessment phase.

Required Qualifications:

Advance level education MD or PhD in one of the basic sciences;
At least 15 years of relevant professional and academic experience of which are at least 10+ years in the pharmaceutical industry in R&D, preferably including 5 years experience in BD&L or related area;
Very strong background in the Drug Development process, expert in aligning the development goals with the business needs;
Good communication skills at all levels in the organization;
Able to encourage and motivate others to maximum performance and is an excellent and proven team leader;
Good analytical and technical understanding and competencies
